Sake is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Various kinds of sake arrive according to the season, are drunk, and disappear. When you lose the chance to drink, you will have to wait until next year. Here, we introduce sake that the owner would like you to try.
芳醇辛口という二刀流「蒼天伝 TORNADO 特別純米 吟のいろは」
八王子まつりが終わり、お盆を迎えるまで、八王子の街は少し静かになる、と思っている、自称呑兵衛代表、おいしい酒倶楽部の今井です。おいしい日本酒を飲んでいますか？

宮城県で23年ぶりに誕生した「吟のいろは」という酒米。今年は宮城の一翼を背負う浦霞から始まって、あちこちで吟のいろはで醸したお酒が登場。

男山本店は蒼天伝で「TORNADO（とるねーど）」と名付けて出してきました。いわゆる竜巻。蒼天伝といえば「切れのよいお酒」というイメージですが、ふくよかさがあるお酒になっており、それでも切れを楽しませる仕立て。ちょっとした二刀流。

つまり、切れの良さを持たせた蒼天伝を変化させていくということなのかもしれません。ただ、輸出を考えると、これまでの切れの良さが欧米各国ではウケるはず。この点もまた難しいところかもしれません。

［Soutenden TORNADO Special Junmai Gin no Iroha］
I’m Imai from the Oishii Sake Club, a self-proclaimed representative drinker. I think the city of Hachioji will be a little quieter after the Hachioji Festival ends and until Obon arrives. Are you enjoying some delicious sake?

A new sake rice variety called “Gin no Iroha” was born in Miyagi Prefecture for the first time in 23 years. This year, starting with Urakasumi, a major player in Miyagi, sake brewed with Gin no Iroha is appearing all over the place.

Otokoyama Honten has released a Soutenden sake called “TORNADO.” It’s essentially a tornado. Soutenden is known for its crispness, but this one has a full-bodied flavor, yet is crafted to be enjoyable. It’s a bit of a two-sword style.

In other words, perhaps this means evolving the Soutenden, which already has a crisp finish. However, considering exports, the crispness of the previous sake should be well-received in Western countries. This may also be a difficult point.

However, there are few varieties of “Fragrant Dry” sake in Japan, so it may be a market worth targeting. This was something I was thinking about while savoring this sake. I hope you’ll take this opportunity to try it too. [2025.08.12]
